Gargamel: Hello Smurf's!
Clumsy: GARGAMEL!
*** out of *****
I always thought the Smurfs deserved a movie, they always have been popular, and the Television show is funny and cute, and the comics are fun to read also, in 2009 there was word of a Smurfs movie, it was never released, nor was there any word on it at all until Christmas of 2010 when the teaser was released and it was told that it would be released on August 3rd 2011, and the plot was the Smurf's going to New York, I didn't really care what reviews it got or anything negative that was said, I was defiantly going to see it. My mother has always loved the smurfs and we said we were going to see it together and it was a good family film.
After Papa Smurf has a vision of his family being enslaved by the evil wizard Gargamel, Papa advises Clumsy Smurf to stay out of the woods where Gargamel's castle was, so clumsy of course doesn't listen and runs into Gargamel and Azriel and they find the secret Smurf Village, they panic and go to the hideout to get away from Gargamel but Clumsy leads Papa, Grouchy, Gutsy(new smurf), Brainy, and Smurfett to a "Forbidden" path, and of course it's the night of "The Blue Moon" and twice a year on this blue moon a smurf portal opens and the Smurfs are sucked in to New York City, and along follows Gargamel and Azriel.
I thought the family values in this film were good, it wasn't a fantastic film, but it was funny, cute and a great adaption of the show and he comics, I really enjoyed it, and the effects were pretty good for a childrens film, along with the transformation of Gargamel and the animation of the Smurfs and Azriel, It was a good way for the Smurf's to make there appearance on the silver screen. I also enjoyed the way they showed the Smurf book by Peyo in the film, thought it was very original. The 3D in this film was pretty good, the finally in 3D was good, the film was shot in 3D also so it would be VERY bright in 2D, but all in all the Smurf gets a passing grade.
